Kokum Butter - The Tropical Answer To Dry Skin
Can you believe that Christmas is almost here? It seems like only yesterday that we were enjoying a heat wave!
Now that the colder weather has arrived, many of us will be confronted with dry, sore, flaky and tight skin. Central heating and the after effects of too much time in the sun without adequate protection can exasperate the problem too. (I wrote a blog about the long term effects of sun damage here).
My no.1 skin care tip for dry skin is to use a body butter that does not contain water because it:
Provides long lasting nourishment
Locks in moisture
Creates a protective film on skin's surface
However, one of the main complaints I hear about butters is that they can feel heavy and oily on the skin. So, I created ‘Kokum Body Boost Butter' to address these issues. It's swiftly gained the tag line ‘quickly absorbs, so you don’t have to wait to put your jeans on’ and certainly got a giggle or two from customers! 😉
The main ingredient found in our butter is Kokum Butter (pronounced Ko-Kam). Kokum is a crop of the tropical region. It comes from the seeds of the Kokum fruit tree, which grow in Asia and Africa. It is not as popular as Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter since it grows in the inner part of forests and makes transportation difficult, plus harvesting coincides with harvesting of the more popular Mango fruit. However, the wonderful benefits of Kokum are increasing the demand for more Kokum farms.
Kokum is a hard butter, but has a crumbly, uneven texture and an earthy smell. It is very high in Vitamin E and rich in antioxidants. Its main antioxidant is Garcinol, which is claimed to inhibit skin glycation (ageing). Kokum butter also provides excellent relief to dry and cracked skin and softens the skin beautifully.
I will be sharing more about the wonderful ingredients contained in this butter, in the meantime, I hope you have a safe and splendid start to December.
I am also looking forward to catching up with you before the New Year!
Kokum Body Boost Butter proved very popular at the recent White House Farm Christmas Market (we sold out!). The aroma was often described as smelling like Lemon Sherbet and most of our customers were astonished at how quickly it absorbed into the skin.
